What is the patient participation group?
The patient group is open to any registered patient to join, and its purpose is to engage patients and their voices in the future development of the NHS. Do you have ideas for improving services in the practice? Are there services you would like to see available? The group is your opportunity to let us know your view, to change the landscape. The group meets four times per year.
What is the PPG?
- It’s a group of patients, all volunteers, from Ireland Wood and New Croft Surgeries.
- It’s been in existence since 2012.
- It meets with Practice staff every three months at the two surgeries in turn.
- Our PPG is a member of the National association for Patient Participation (NAPP).
What does the PPG do?
It’s a forum for two -way feedback of ideas, suggestions, reactions, and questions about any aspect of the work of the Practice, especially the patient experience.
At least once a year the members spend a week in the Surgery Reception Areas talking to patients, collecting opinions and observations – including complaints – about their experience of being a patient at IW/NC. These are then written into a Report which is sent to the Practice Manager and discussed at the next PPG meeting.
Do I have to attend meetings and/or take part in surveys?
No! Some members prefer to be part of the ‘virtual group’, who simply receive minutes of the meetings, reports and notices, either by email or post.

Does the PPG have any official status?
All GP Practices are required to have a PPG, and when the Practice is examined by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) PPG members are asked to contribute.
How do I contact the PPG?
If you would like to join the group or ask a question simply send an email to the official Patient Participation Group address (see below) and a member of the PPG will be in touch! If you do not have access to email simply come into the surgery and complete a new PPG membership form.

Meeting Dates 2024
The Ireland Wood and New Croft PPG hold 4 meetings per year with surgery staff present (which we will refer to as ‘Official’ meetings), and 4 pre-meetings which are not attended by staff.
